Speak with the fire: talk to the Spirit.

May 11, 2008

The fire is the Spirit.
Speak with the fire: talk to the Spirit.
The fire shows you the way back to the Universe.
Talk to the fire: speak with the spirit.
What was energy from the Sun,
once trapped in the tree,
now goes back to the Sun.

The Spirit burns, both inside and outside.
The spirit moves, both in my hands and in front of my eyes.
The Spirit burns: and my sausages are ready. Read the rest of this entry »

Was it my birthday party?

May 10, 2008

We had a really nice bbq this evening by the lake. Good weather, good food, good friends and colleagues. Everything was so good that somebody was wishing me “Happy Birthday” after it.  Well, it was a really good birthday surprise party also for me :)

Mara Carfagna and the equal opportunities “Italian way”

May 9, 2008

Italians are machos; Italians are aggressive towards women; Italians judge women only from their bodies; Italians are womanizers; Italian women: at home with kids. IT IS ALL WRONG! Berlusconi, once again, shows the world how wrong you are, my foreign friends. As you can see, Italian women can even be employed in the Italian parliament. If they have the right “qualities” Mara Carfagna is the minister for Equal opportunities under the 4th Berlusconi government.

German humor from “Bild”: “Carfagna will hoch hinaus – auch in der PO-litik”   … those Germans …

Finally, a movie showing the right quality of our sexy minister.

XP SP3: should I really install it?

May 9, 2008

Yesterday I connected to Windows Update. The Express Update option gave me the possibility to install the 3rd Service Pack. I don’t know why, but I felt worried about it. I didn’t install it: the picture comes from another website. Did you do it already? Did you install it on the eeePC too? After it:

1) everything was working better than before
2) like before
3) the pc crashed.

What was your experience?

Virtual reality goes pigs

May 9, 2008

Pigs are virtual reality best friends. Medicine students in many USA universities will not practice the first incision on pigs anymore. Through the last 14 years, 90% of Medicine universities switched from animals to computer simulations. Maintenance costs, difference between pig and human bodies and maybe some ethical pressure made this possible. Of course not all Universities agree with this decision. The famous John Hopkins center, for example, still uses live animals for practice. “No amount of book learning, lectures or computer simulation can substitute for the experience of working with living tissue, and the unpredictability and bloodiness of real surgery“, said Johns Hopkins’ director of surgery. We will see if death rates will increase in USA hospitals or not …

eeePC safe overclock with eeectl.exe

May 8, 2008

If you have installed XP on your eeePC, with eeectl.exe you can safely overclock the FSB from 70 to 100 Mhz (CPU speed from 630 to 900 Mhz). I tried to go up to 990 Mhz but XP crashed and it took some time to cool down before starting again. In the eeectl forum on eeeuser.com you can see that even changing to low FSB speed can corrupt in some cases XP files. My suggestion: don’t play with it too much and enjoy your eeePC at 900 Mhz, 60 degrees Celsius and 40% fan speed.

Your fat cells don’t care about diets …

May 7, 2008

… just their size does.  A Swedish research team found that fat cells do reproduce, in contrary to what was previously thought. More interestingly, researchers found that people on diet do not reduce the number of their fat cells: fat cells shrink or expand depending on the chosen food regime and go on dividing keeping their number quite stable. So don’t get crazy if, even being on diet, your roundish shape is not affected: fat cells are tough to be defeated.

Ticino I love you

May 6, 2008

We had 3 wonderful days in Ticino (CH) last weekend. A lot of sun, friendly people, astonishing panoramas and very good food. What could we ask more than this? Thanks to Luigi for giving us all the tips for this unforgettable holidays. To better show you the places we’ve seen, Lorana opened a Flickr account. In this way, you can enjoy our pictures in full size format … and much more. Below instructions on how to use the Flickr service: Read the rest of this entry »

Plantronics 260 handset on bluetooth Broadcom 2045 2.0

May 6, 2008

Setting up those two devices has not been exactly a piece of cake. The problem was: old bluetooth stacks. Now that I installed the last version from Broadcom everything works perfectly. Nice to listen to my favorite music easily carried around on my eeePC being wireless too. Am I a freak?

EOS 450D with EF 70-300mm, f/4-5.6 IS USM

May 5, 2008

God bless who created the Image Stabilizer. With a 300mm objective and without a tripod it is really difficult to keep the camera stable (for me). Click on the 2 post pictures above to see the difference between two shots, with or without IS. Do you know how the IS works? Do you know if it is normal to “hear” it when the shot button is half a way pushed to focus the object?

Watch here a 70mm to 300mm extension on the 450D …
