BPA toxicity admitted! What is your next move?

On the 9th of August I reminded you what are the negative effects of stocking food and drinks in plastic, even if plastic “for food”. Today the toxicity is confirmed, but I didn’t see so much rumor about it. Plastic bottles/containers heated up with boiling water, as shown experimentally, release high quantities of bisphenol-A, even when the container is cooled down and rinsed out. Even if these quantities are below the “safety limits”, I don’t see any reason why we should drink tea with bisphenol-A and have higher probabilities of breast/prostate cancers in the future. That’s why we will not use our plastic water boiler anymore (left in the picture) and we bought a new water boiler made of metal (on the right).

GATTACA vs d5SICS and dMMO2

Once upon a time we had four nucleotides (A,G,C,T) pairing to form the double helix of DNA. Today two artificial nucleotides, d5SICS and dMMO2, able to pair and to be included in DNA structures, have been synthesized. Going from 4 to 6 nucleotides is a big leap for the genetic code and especially for amino acids variability. If now we can have 4^3 possible different amino acids (as each one could be determined during protein synthesis by codes of tree nucleotides), in the future we could have 6^3 different combinations available. Known amino acids nowadays are 20-23. How could artificial life made out of possible 216 amino acids (just hypothesis for a non degenerated code) look like?

I’ve seen the light …

… of the beamer projecting a movie from 1977 on my living room walls. This was really an experience.  I’ve never seen this movie in cinemas, and today it has been totally exciting!!! All next evenings are booked for Lorana cinema :) Do you recognize the movie?
