Facebook? No thanks, I stay WordPress.

bbfacebook.jpg

Some friends of mine reacted badly to my critics about Facebook. I don’t want to upset my friends and I don’t want to be part of Facebook strategy. So, my friends, I show you why I don’t like Facebook and why I will not put there any real information about me. All what I write in this post comes from here (read it, it is really interesting) and similar sources. Typing “Facebook Beacon” in Google will give several results on Facebook privacy problems. Look by yourself what Facebook does with your data:

1) on your Facebook page click on privacy (upright corner)
2) click on External websites (last in the list) and read what comes out

Choice A) Now, if you want Facebook going on violating your privacy rights  leave everything like this.

Choice B) If you’re are not really happy showing business companies and your friends which kind of products/activities you buy on internet, turn this option on.

Your personal data are really important to advertisement and commercial companies. And you give them away for free on Facebook. You are free to say “I don’t mind”. I am free to say “I do”.

By the way … did you know about this option in your security setup?

    The facebook is very simple.

1)it is easy to find old friends from all over the world vey easy withou searching e mails or blogs or phone numbers.
Is it easy to find you someone only when you are using your blog?
I have found many frinds which i sow the 10 years ago last time and they live in other countrys right now.
    How did i found them?
I’ve just typed zheir names and i sow their photos and i recordnize them.

    2)Privacy.
There is a lot of privacy.
Noone is able to see your profile even your photo ecxept your friends.
From the setting you are able to decide which informations you want to be seen.
But NOONE stranger is able to see your informations or which friends do you have.It is up to you.

sending e mails just to say a hallo is borring.
From sites like this is easyer and faster i think.

I didn’t gave so many personal informations to face book.
They have only my name and my e mail.
I havent received any spam on my e mail account and no advertisments.

I just contact very easy old friends.

Yes,but Ioannis, I think what Lorenzo means is a different problem. Sure, no one can see your profile unless you agree. But these social networks make a lot of money selling databases with personal information of you to firms. For example: you receive a lot of posts concerning the topic “camping”, “music” etc,, Facebook adds this information into a database, sells it and suddenly you start to get Emails or calls, where they try to sell you CDs. I noticed already that this happens but I am still indecesive, because I also enjoy the positive tools, such as knowing what is your love making anthem now ;-)

Thank you Corinna. You perfectly got the point. I am not telling you guys to stop using Facebook. With all private pictures I put on internet on my blog I am probably more exposed than you. What I want to point out is that your personal data are used by other companies to make profit. If what you get from Facebook (nice contacts with friends) is more than what you give them (your personal data) of course there are no problems staying in Facebook.

I wrote this post just to say why *I* am not keen on it. I didn’t write it to say *you* are fool using it.

    Kisses and hugs to both.

facebook sucks, it’s an ego and novelty thing, and once you’ve added your chums, done some updates, and played with it a while, what else is left to do on it? here’s hoping the fad passes. globus likes the way you write by the way.

  5. Lorenzo Says:

    Thanks Globus.

  6. Corinna Says:

An ego thing? Sure! But where is the difference between these social networks (like facebook) and private blogs or even websites? For me it is the same. You publish your opinion about things that interest you, you put photos so your friends can share your happy or sad moments…. it is always the same: MY life, MY opinions, things that interest ME, MY photos, places that I have seen, MY favorite music … etc. Of course it is a ego thing, but I think we can just face the truth: This is the social pattern of our society today. We are not living in a collectivist society. Individualism is one of these days phenomena and facebook is just one tiny particle that reflects this development. I don’t want to say we should therefore damm the internet or facebook etc… . We also can use it in a positive way, like this blog that gives the option to SWAP opinions or like facebook where you also can SHARE things with your friends.

  7. globus Says:

corinna, granted blogs are an ego thing also, however globus feels a blog is more of a soapbox; whereas facebook is more of a facile indulgence.

    Interesting bad news on Facebook.
It is easy to register, you can delete your account, but your data remain FOREVER on Facebook. Guess why? Read here
