EOS 450D with EF 70-300mm, f/4-5.6 IS USM
God bless who created the Image Stabilizer. With a 300mm objective and without a tripod it is really difficult to keep the camera stable (for me). Click on the 2 post pictures above to see the difference between two shots, with or without IS. Do you know how the IS works? Do you know if it is normal to “hear” it when the shot button is half a way pushed to focus the object?
Watch here a 70mm to 300mm extension on the 450D …

When you take a picture at 300mm in low light it is very usefull to have IS.
But in daylight it is not so important: if you can use 1/320 s then you can turn IS off.
On the 450D 70mm is 112 mm and 300 mm is 480 mm.
So you own a “500 mm” zoom !!!
I don’t have IS so I don’t know about that sound you heard.
Hey boy … your Canon lens is quite expensive !
