Firefox 3.0 on my eeePC : NEVER AGAIN

firefox 3

I TESTED the new FF3 all the evening long. I DE-INSTALLED IT and put back the 2.0.14. On my eeePC running XP, the FF3 is terribly slow, even typing is slower and it crashes often. I HATED IT. DO NOT install the FF3. Keep the last version of the FFv2 that worked PERFECTLY.

7 MB downloaded and installed. All very nice except for the back and forward arrows that disappeared. The two arrows were hidden in the navigation toolbar (right click on the menu toolbar and tick navigation toolbar to see them), but I didn’t want the navigation toolbar to appear in addition to the main menu toolbar. So, to move again back your navigation arrow in the main toolbar from the main toolbar, just

- click on the menu toolbar and select customize
- move the arrows from the navigation toolbar to the customize toolbar
- move the arrows back to the menu toolbar

… and enjoy Firefox 3!

I use Firefox 3 on my XP desktop at work and use FF3 on all my Ubuntu-based machines at home, including my trusty EeePC701 – works very well for me. I find it much more reliable than FF2 and it loads faster too.

Under Windows, I don’t find FF3 to be that much of a speed boost over FF2, but I have found it to be more reliable with many websites.

I’ve also no problems on my desktop. I have no idea why on the eeePC it was so bad. But FF2 works really better in my case: it never crashed since I used it.

Yeah, it really sucks that you can no longer put whatever icons you need all on one toolbar, so now if you want navigation arrows you have to open up a whole new bar.
What kind of STUPID thinking was this? I mean, DIR?

Gonna see if I can re-install version 2, if I can find an installer.

Actually, you can still put everything on one toolbar. Just follow the deleted part of this post. You have to move the arrows to the customize bar and then back to the upper toolbar you want to keep.

Anyway, on my eeePC FF3 is damn slow and crashes every now and then. So, I kept the FF2

The problem is Windows XP. Try fedora http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EeePc firefox runs quite well…

I don’t have any problems with my eeePC and Firefox 3, in fact, I’m posting from firefox 3 right now on my eeePC 1000HE.

It’s running XP Home (for the moment…), and works great.

You push me to give it a try again….

    However, I’ve the eeePC701.
    what are the hardware differences?

The problem is that SSD on EeePC is terribly slow. And FF3 is really bad with the new SQLite configuration files that require a lot of random access reads/writes. When you have a decent SSD or regular HDD, there is no perceivable speed problems with FF3 (a little slow on startup, but after that works fine).

Try Opera on EeePC – it is an order of magnitude faster than FF3 on this netbook.

Thanks! I will give a try to Opera.
