First habitable exoplanet found: 10% to 20% of the star systems could have life-compatible planets

September 30, 2010

As in the only Milky Way there are hundreds of billions of stars, our close universe seems to be quite crowded. Why did we not yet have any contacts with extra terrestrials?

1. Life forms in the Milky Way did not develop at the same pace. Other forms are much more primitive or much more developed than us.
2. Physical conditions of light-year-long trips are not barable for the kind of life evolved in the Milky Way.
3. God created just us, a plant with life-compatible environment is nothing without a divine intervention.

Oddly, we also never detected any life-compatible signal from the deep space.

1. We are the top evolved life-form in the Milky Way.
2. “They” shield their radiations to avoid any unwanted contact.
3. We are alone :(

“Reality” is a production of senses and their memories.

September 29, 2010

It was a long time I did not talk to C., a good German friend of mine living in Berlin. We had our last chat around 1 year ago. In the last days I could see her being often on-line on Skype. Yesterday we finally had a nice talk again, and I found she is now in Chile.

That means, I supposed she was in Berlin because I saw her on-line and the last time I chatted with her she was there, but my supposition about this reality was wrong.

The information “C. is in Berlin” was initially given to me by my senses and was later kept alive by my mind.

How much of the information we have is just based on senses and the memory of them? All of it.

As the information stored by our memory is much more than what my senses give to me in this precise moment, the continuum of this reality is pure mind work.

MY reality at the moment consists of a plastic keyboard, light from a monitor, the HD noise, the pressure of my butt on my chair, the cold floor under my feet. All the rest is illusion and there is quite a high probability “all the rest” does NOT exist at the moment, except for being a memory in my mind.

What if I lift up now from my chair, turn my head back … and I find myself in Chile?

Balairatt.ch: Svizzera anno zero.

September 29, 2010

[English below]

Svizzera anno zero.

[English]

In the Italian speaking region of Switzerland, the advertisement of the post picture was installed in several locations. Italian and Rumenian citizens working in Switzerland have been depicted like rats eating the Swiss cheese (Swiss money). Another disgusting xenophobic Swiss initiative that does not solve any problem and additionally rises up hate between countries. This is not the first xenophobic campaign made in Switzerland against foreigners, who have been depicted like black sheep, aggressive crows, now rats – what’s next? Every Swiss citizen, except  xenophobes and Lega Ticinese or UDC supporters, should be ashamed of it.

Italia: raggiunto lo zero politico assoluto.

September 27, 2010

Metro 2033 vs. other first-person shooters: the human factor.

September 26, 2010

Probably I am biased and not enough experienced. I find Metro 2033 a step higher compare to “usual” first-person shooters. While playing it, you can notice Metro 2033 is based on a sci-fi book – a feeling missing with other known similar games. In Metro 2033 I feel I play a human being, not a marine or whatever. And this makes this Ukraine production very appealing.

Do we need God to explain the origin of life on Planet Earth?

September 25, 2010

I got surprised finding how many friends of mine do not consider the evolution theory a good option to describe the development of life.

Usually they argue against LUCA and tend for an external “divine” intervention because:  they do not accept casual chemical reactions made life out of not animated components AND they do not accept casual mutations brought out the variety of life we know.

I wonder what pushes people to believe in something never shown to exist (God) and not in some theories with handfuls of evidences. The time human beings will step out from the myth “we-are-the-beloved-creatures-of-god” will be certainty for good.

Try to erase God and supernatural beings away from your mind for the time you need to read what follows.

Buying online: the delayed out-of-stock danger!

September 25, 2010

Finally it happened to me, too. I ordered and paid something that was described as “in-stock”, but it wasn’t. The same story previously happened with two colleagues of mine, who went though a real nightmare with a very famous Swiss on-line shop for computer hardware. They had to wait 2 months (!) each to finally get home what they ordered.

In my case I was much more lucky. The website that made the “in-stock” mistake with me recognized its error, cancelled my ordered, refunded me the money so that I could immediately buy the item on another website. All this happened in less than 1 day since the mistake was discovered.

So, I can say I was much more satisfied buying on internet.ch than my colleagues on ******ch.ch :)

300 MW, 200.000 families, 0.9 billions of Euros. UK energy strategy vs. Italian suicide strategy

September 23, 2010

The title refers to the new offshore wind farm opened by UK in the North Sea. Why UK strategy is better than the Italian one?

1. Italy paid until now 50 billions Euros to manage the radioactive waste and the old, never fully turned on nuclear plants.
2. Zero Italian families used the 0MW produced by the 3 or 4 plants built and immediately closed.
3. With 50 billions of Euros, Italy could have built 50 wind farms and virtually (I suppose wind is stronger on the North Sea than in several Italian areas) producing around 15GW

I did not know if to write such a post in Italian … but who cares in Italy of green energy (except for mafia)??? Several power plants will be sooner or later built in Italy on order of the supreme leader Silvio Berlusconi. The building cost for each will be around 3.2 to 11.8 billions of Euros (which in total means from 22 to 80 billions of Euros) . Let’s hope there will be no earthquakes …

What if your job does not leave you time for reading a book?

September 21, 2010

…or listening to music
…or going out for movies
…or just sleeping outside in your garden?

Is this still a job? Or is it a self-chosen slavery? Of course I “need”, I “want” a job. But I still like so many other aspects of this life. Should I renounce to them?  Or does it mean I am simply not talented enough for “my job”?

I will never forget the funeral of my previous boss. Of course, a very intelligent, and talented, and successful man died. But was it normal, while the smoke of his ashes came out of the crematory, to hear the list of his discoveries and successes instead of the mourning of his parents?

“Io penso che a questo mondo si lavori troppo, e che mali incalcolabili siano derivati dalla convinzione che il lavoro sia cosa santa e virtuosa.”

Bertrand Russell, Elogio dell’ozio

“Europe to Europeans!” Are foreigners the cause of economical, psychological, social and sexual problems in Europe?

September 20, 2010

Jimmie Akesson and the Sweden Democrats, the True Finns in Finland, Pia Kjærsgaard and the Danish people party, Geert Wilders and its Freedom Party in Netherlands, the Vlaams Belang from Belgium and Lega Nord in Italy, Jobbik in Hungary and the Great Rumanian party and SD in Switzerland.

What does lead people to vote for populist parties? Ignorance? Racism? Hate?
Do voters of the above mentioned parties really believe that Jimmie or Geert or Umberto will solve the problems related of immigration? Do they really believe it is possible to stop millions people at the border of Europe just by sending them back forever?

Jimmi and friends will never act seriously on immigration, otherwise they will lose their jobs. Money should be invested in integration programs, language programs, school programs, cultural events, knowledge of the foreigner and of local rules  – even kids should understand that such money investments give better feedbacks (jobs, integration, respect) than walls in the desert.
