Dr. Daniel Nocera and his team reinvented the leaf: do we have sustainable energy, at last ?

March 29, 2011

What the “artificial leaf” needs:

- inexpensive materials (nickel and cobalt)
- water to be split into hydrogen and oxygen
- sunlight

How long does a single artificial leaf work?

- at least 45 hours with no drop in productivity (which is also 10 times higher than natural photosynthesis)

Placed in a single gallon of water in a bright sunlight, the artifical leaf could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day“. Dr. Daniel Nocera presented his research at a meeting of the American Chemical Society. If this is all true, who will still need nuclear power ?!?

Contatore Geiger online LIVE su Bologna: radioattivita’ in Italia normale.

March 29, 2011

Europe could care less about Italy’s immigration emergency

March 28, 2011

I would really like to see how any other European country would manage the massive illegal immigration Italy is suffering at the moment.

Tunisia and Lybia, just to cite two countries, are shifting North towards Lampedusa to later reach continental Italy. Neither Germany, nor France or UK give a damn **** to what is going on in the southern shores of the continent.

If I were Italy’s government I would just fill hundreds of train wagons with these thousands of young and healthy immigrants and send them to France if they speak French, for example. Spain (or Morocco?) shot them before they could cross the border: admit at least Italy is acting much better.

I wonder what Italy earned from joining Europe:

- out of control gypsies thrown out of Romania
- tons of communitarian money to feed mafia and camorra
- European parliament seats for Italian parasitic politicians
- a strong currency that killed Italy export
- thousands of migrants bombed by France and UK fleeing to Italy

… and all this happened with one of the worst government Italy ever had – that’s exactly why Europe does not care about it.

He came in peace…

… and He confirmed us that the World is nuts.

A bird in the hole and two squirrels aside.

March 27, 2011

It is not easy to organize a relaxing bike tour in Zurich, being the city all up and down. That’s why we transported our bikes uphill and we organized a short 15 kms tour on the up side of the “Zuri Golden Coast” – meeting a couple of forest creatures energized by these first Spring days. Give a look to these playful squirrels and to this nesting bird :)

Medioevo chiama Italia, e Italia rispose come sempre!

On social acceptance, free will, expectancies and conformism in modern societies.

March 27, 2011

How many things do we do because we are forced to and how many because we like them and how many we do although we don’t care?

The society we built pushes for conformism. Being accepted by the majority of our society makes our life easier and safer and comfortable. School, work, pension, death. In between family, religion, reproduction, money saving, car, house. Missing one of the above mentioned points can be lethal for our social acceptance. Laws even regulate some of these steps, making them life’s rules.

Primary rules are called obligations. I cannot choose to cultivate my ignorance or to stay jobless. I will go to jail or I will starve to death.

Secondary rules are called good suggestions. Taking by free will the decision to live without family, religion, car, house or reproduction does not make life easier. Why? Because of the pushing expectancies of parents, relatives, friends or colleagues. Try saying: “I do not want to get married”, “I do not want to have kids”, “I do not care about God”, “I do not save money I enjoy the moment”, “I do not care about buying a house” and look how people around you react. The majority will try to change your ideas.

This happens because we live a highly conformist society. People belonging to this society accepted it from the beginning because they like it, or they were forced to accept it and they now pretend you accept it, too. How to survive such conformist environment? By denying its rules. Such decision puts you in a scary and difficult situation but personal satisfactions are to me still more precious than a comfortable existence.

Earth Hour is one of the most useless initiatives I have ever participated.

March 26, 2011

Earth Hour is an initiative “to take a stand against climate change”. Earth Hour “has done a lot to raise awareness of sustainability issues”.

So, please, tell me now how turning off lights will save our planet from climate change. In comparison, organized jumping sessions to change our planet axis sounded more logic. And, yes, show me what you do to go “beyond the hour“, I am already thrilled…

Anyway, a banal excuse for a night out.

Fukushima radioactivity in the sea: iodine-131 and cesium-137 (and fishes?)

March 26, 2011

Although on media Fukushima is not a top news anymore, in the Pacific Ocean close to Fukushima radioactivity levels reached 1250 times the natural radiation. That means, half a liter of this contaminated water contains the maximum annual radiation dose we can absorb.

Good to know, iodine-131 has a half-life of eight days. On the bad side, cesium-137 measured in the same region is 80 times more the normal levels. Cesium-137 has an half life of 30 years.

There are no radioactivity data on larger and more distant Ocean areas, anyway, here are the FAO codes for the fishes caught in the Pacific Ocean:

61    Pacific, Northwest
67    Pacific, Northeast
71    Pacific, Western Central
77    Pacific, Eastern Central
81    Pacific, Southwest
87    Pacific, Southeast
88    Pacific, Antarctic

Wan*ing in your bathroom? You’ll get ejacula*io pre*ox soon!

March 23, 2011

Wan*ing in a hurry at young ages may promote ejaculatio precox at older stages. This incredible discovery is made by the Italian andrologist Giuseppe La Pera. On 200 examined subjects, he realized that 90% of the patients suffering of ejaculatio precox were used to wan* in their bathroom, where they learned to couple anxiety status to orgasm.

Nowadays 30% of the world man population suffer of this dysfunction. Take care of your kids, parents: let them wan* in there bed without having stress :)
