OPEN Agassi, open you.

April 30, 2011

In its autobiography, Agassi reveals the extreme sacrifices imposed by his father and later by himself to stay the number 1 for 101 weeks. Should we believe he always hated tennis? Should be trust him writing he feels now so addicted he cannot give it up?

On one side, it is easy to deny yourself after reaching the top, as it finally becomes clear that all the sacrifices was worth. On the other side, I believe Agassi, who probably regrets the alternative opportunities lost, because of his extreme dedication to tennis.

I believe Agassi because what happened to him I see also in my job environment, paternal violence excluded (at least for what I know). Except for a few really clever people, the rest of successful guys I know strongly dedicate their lives exclusively to their work; few free time, no distractions, no unplanned events. As I am not extremely clever, it seems I will not manage to completely satisfy my ambitions :-/

How easy was leaving your old job?

April 29, 2011

To me, it is incredibly difficult. Let’s hope the new environment will be as pleasant as the old one. Bye bye, auf wiedersehen, au revoir … babiecolleagues :’-)

Today police and TomTom, tomorrow genomes and Health Ensurances

April 28, 2011

Today a colleague of mine informed us of her intention to get her genome sequenced. She will spit into a lab tube and send it to 23andme.com There, her genome will get sequenced just for 100$ and the information will be stored by 23andme.com for ever.

I wonder why should I do this:

1. Am I curious to see which health risk I will / I have? NO
2. Do I trust just the sequence of a gene to predict my health? NO
3. Do I trust 23andme.com in keeping my data private? NO
4. Am I sure health ensurances will not use my genome data to make me pay more? NO

So, you will not get my saliva, 23andme.com

P.S. Why did I write about police and TomTom?

What to do four day-long in Paris?

April 26, 2011

First of all, get invited by a friend living close to Les Invalides. This is a perfect starting point to fully experience this amazing capital. If you do not have such friend like mine in the picture … find one!

1st day.
For the first day visit Paris by bike. I rented a city bike via Velolib. If you do not want to pay 40 Euros for a stupid bike like I did, remember to change it every half an hour: it’s free! I biked from Les Invalides to the Cemetery of Pere Lechaise to pay a visit to Jim, Oscar and friends. Click HERE to see the GPSed map of the tour and HERE for the pictures only.

Fight Diarrhoea, donate toilets through the World Toilet Organization!

April 10, 2011

The last fever I had destroyed me for 4 long days. I never had something like this before. Reading around in the net, I found that around 2.2 million people around the world, mainly kids, die of diarrhoea each year! I did not die of it, but the pain I had in the last days was more than enough to convince me we must move and do something against it.

Donating money to build toilets and sanitation can be a wonderful first step to improve water quality and lower diarrhoea death toll. I cannot sleep any more knowing that in average 6000 people every day die with such horrible suffering.

DONATE! Around 8 people already died of diarrhoea while you were reading this post :(

Tron (1982) – Tron Legacy: find the differences

April 9, 2011

Tron Legacy was quite good entertainment last year. Then I watched Tron (1982) and I understood that:

- South Park Super Best Friend Moses is MCP

- Disney habit to corrupt juvenile minds did not start with Jonas Bros and purity rings – give a look to this post movie

- No writers work anymore at Disney, only special effect designers

The 3 golden laws to rule them all!

April 8, 2011

1. create targets

2. create rules for reaching such targets

3. create fears of losing what was gained

Targets at point 1 must be unequally distributed, thus to create frictions in the society. Frictions, ordered by the rules at point two, will create a dynamic competition between people looking for targets and people who reached them. Fears at point 3 must be created, thus to introduce uncertainty also in people who reached their targets and avoid excessive unbalance towards a stall situation.
