Feelings useless just over 30, or, looking for a job being over 30

November 13, 2009

Who knows me, knows how much time did I invest in my job in the last years. No evenings at home, no week ends, and this year no holidays, too. The projects I am involved in, or my low intelligence level, required so. Almost three months ago I sent my project for revision to my supreme leader. He possibly changed his priorities towards my project, or he never had any, as his necessary revision is not yet on the table. I start to doubt if I will ever get some revision. No revision, no result, time wasted. Nice prospective.

So, I find myself having a lot of boring time to fill up. Writing application letters for new jobs makes this time even worst, as I got no positive answer yet after many (and I mean MANY) CVs sent around the world.

It is terrible to be just above 30 and to feel completely useless for my own and society development. I really envy the previous generation of workers, sitting in the same company for all their life. I know blaming old choices or crying on myself will possibly not solve any problem – but for time to time I need it – before it is too late.

Pros and cons of having a young kid at home

September 2, 2009

For two days a friend of mine came to visit me with her 3 years old son. I admit it, I had no idea how could have been going with him. Tomorrow they are leaving and …

Pros:

Everything watched through the eyes of a kid acquires incredible interest. Even a blue old Ikea carpet became e ocean to be explored. Fishes, flowers and plants were of course already very interesting.

When I was back home those last two days I could not think about my job anymore: talking to the kid was much more interesting.

Forget about late nights on the net and later mornings in the bed. At 10pm in the bed, at 6am at the table for breakfast. Very healthy!

Cons:

Kids seem to eat only a small portion of what they have on the dish. They eat even less than wives. I will become soon veeeery fat.

… so, it was funny and interesting being uncle Lorenzo for a while :)

Inline skating against the swine flu: skate marathon on the Greifen See (Uster)

August 30, 2009

| View Show | Create Your Own

It was a big success the inline skating marathon “Aktive gegen die Schweine Grippe” organized by Loranablog on the 29th of August 2009. Several enthusiastic inline skaters, following the motto “No kisses, no hugs .. it’s pandemic, baby! (CC)” rolled for 19,340 meters around the Greifen See. The sunny day and the süessmoscht gave more than enough juice to roll the long distance in only 3 hours and 22 minutes. The end of the day has been celebrated with a vigorous swimming in the lake and a gorgeous grill back in the city.

We thank all the participants and we look forward to the next great event!

P.S. you can request the master pictures to print yourself the “No kisses, no hugs .. it’s pandemic, baby!” t-shirt (CC) at loranablogatkillamaildotcom

P.P.S. you can support our initiatives against the swine flu pandemic by donating money to loranablog through Paypal (on the right columns of the blog)

Street Parade 2009 – Zürich: the slide puzzle

August 12, 2009

streetparade2009_small

Ok, let’s  tell the truth. After 4 hours under the rain, it was not easy to still have the right spirit to shoot nice pictures . Nevertheless, some pictures were still worth to be cut and mixed in this wonderful slide puzzle. Actually, it is not sliding. Let’s change the game: “Find the intruder”. There’s an intruder in this slide puzzle mosaic. Even if you don’t know him/her, you could manage to find who he/she is

What to do against the swine flu H1N1 pandemic: the anti H1N1 T-shirt

July 28, 2009

pandemic-H1N1-t-shirt

I was surprised my employer did not inform us about work safety rules against H1N1. Last week, we finally got an e-mail titled: “How to avoid flu spreading in and outside working hours”.

- Wash hands many times per day
- Stay at home at least one day if feeling sick
- Keep a tissue on mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing
- Bin used tissues and wash hands after sneezing
- Do not shake hands, neither kiss people
- Stay 1 meter far away from other people

The first four look to me of common sense. The last two are somehow more difficult to respect … so, I printed out the t-shirt in the picture and to save myself and my friends from pandemic!

DON’T PANIC!

Just bake your pizza as usual, maybe with some more salt… and enjoy it! It will be delicious! Watch the picture, click on it, and convince yourself :)

Music speaks another story

July 24, 2009

Music speaks another story
it does not get rational
it is like color for the ears
sounds for the eyes

Music is not a background
it requires every sense awaken
to penetrate deeply
there,

where neither images
nor music
but feelings
reach their destination

there,
where time has no meaning
and space is infinite
in these long nights
my love,
you don’t share with me.

What to do before moving to Switzerland: watch Die Schweizermacher

June 28, 2009

Just watch the movie “Die Schweizermacher“. If you plan to move to Zürich, watch also “Downtown Switzerland“.

The first movie, “The Swiss Makers” (1978), is still extremely actual. Although you’ll probably have nothing to do with the Kantonal Polizei, the ironically displayed Swiss behaviors are still very common in a big part of the Swiss population. Being foreigner, you’ll be very severely judged by the conservative part of Switzerland inhabitants. Swiss neighbors, state officers, colleagues, landlords, postmen, public service drivers will all keep a special eye on you. Every Swiss conservative has the duty to control foreigners, being foreigners very probably dangerous persons. Not hanging white curtains in the kitchen, sleeping on a mattress, not perfectly cleaning your flat, not having your wife at home but working outside, inviting foreigner friends at home, using different color trash bags, waking up late in the morning, not respecting the rigid washing times … these are all suspicious behaviors. Whenever you’ll get Swiss neighbors, you’ll remember about this movie.

The second movie, “Downtown Switzerland”, shows the contrast between the progressive and the conservative groups in Switzerland. Zürich is a socialist island in the middle of a Christian democrat ocean. You’ll feel this contrast very strong in the city and its citizens, and you’ll have the possibility to meet people looking at you not as a “foreigner parasite” but as a “human being”. In the movie, the ex major Lederberger addresses his conservative CDU-SVP counterparts as made of “Fritzen and Fritzinnen” . If he says so, you can believe him :)
