Clockwork Orange “versus” Funny Games: an Italian problem?

July 2, 2008

I would have NEVER thought to compare two such different movies. Sadly, on damn stupid Italian media the comparison is made. Why? Why this?

Clockwork Orange is a wonderful critic against the monster society generating monsters. CO shows how the same society believes to create powerful solutions to its mistakes, but in reality it fails over and again. CO is a movie with a incredibly large view on our hypocrite society, full of useless rules made not to control who rebels to them, but to keep quiet the rest of the population, giving it the warm illusion of safety. Safety: this is the abused word of the most populist governments actually in power, like the Italian one.

What is Funny Games? FG is a really nice thriller. That’s it. It is a small story, a cameo, a nice thrill in the spinal cord. Nothing more.

Who dares to compare these two movies? Who on this planet has to be blamed for the stupid Italian commercials introducing FG as the follow up of CO?

The Italian animal farm

June 30, 2008

A curious coincidence: Marco Travaglio today compared the last actions of the Italian government to what happened in the famous Animal Farm by George Orwell. I’ve seen a nice Animal Farm movie just yesterday night. If you didn’t read the book, watch on youtube this good version from 1954. First part, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. Enjoy it.

“Things just happened”

June 22, 2008

One movie out of ten happened to be really really good. Go for “Meu Nome Não é Johnny”: a very pleasurable comedy/drama. If you manage to, watch it in original language with appropriate subtitles. And, yes, maybe sometimes, as the truly talented Selton Mello said, “things just happened”.

Full length movies FREE online: something illegal?

June 19, 2008

Being at home, alone, sick, with headache and blablabla since three bloody long days what could I do else than browsing internet all time long? Productions like “Hot Nuns 3″ are old classics ;) and I needed something new. So I met the huge offer of free movies online from websites like:

66stage, with movies online even before they come out in the cinema nearby

Project - Free TV, with such a huge catalog of movies, TV serials and so on

.. and who knows what’s more out there. Interestingly, all these websites are NOT containing the movies they stream. Both sites write more or less something like this “We are not responsible for what other people upload to 3rd party sites”, as they just LINK to other websites that do physically contain the movie file.

My question is: WATCHING a stream (not downloading) of a copyright product is legal even if the copyright is not paid? Do you know the answer? Being in doubt, I don’t link those websites: if you are curious, google them out.

Which AMERICAN dream?

June 18, 2008

Thanks Michael Moore for unveiling the dark sides of the American dream. Watch his movie Sicko up here and think twice before “winning” a Green Card to go living and working in the States. Europe is a paradise, in comparison. HMOs look like parahuman companies, imho.

Indiana Jones IV … or was it X-files?

June 7, 2008

I’ve seen the new Indiana Jones IV. Or was it Pirates of the Caribbeans? Or Tarzan? Or X-files? Or Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Dear Mr. Spielberg … thanks for having put the good old Indy back in shape. Thanks for the first one hour of the movie. For the rest, well … maybe kids will love it. I’ve seen the first Indiana Jones with my father when I was still going to kindergarten. I don’t think I will bring my father to this new one. Pity.

Gian Marco Montesano: un ulteriore disonesto intellettuale? La storia la scrivono i cineasti.

May 13, 2008

Why do you like “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”?

April 13, 2008

I really loved the audio-book and the movie . Didn’t read the book yet. Anyway, I cannot explain why I do feel so good after watching/hearing it. This movie makes life really easy. Thanks, Douglas Adams for describing your race problems the way you did.
