Home Switzerland: I am lovin’ it

April 29, 2012

Never judge a book by its cover, Frank N Furter loved to say. Never judge a nation from your neighbour, I would like to add, if needed.

Yesterday during my bike tour, I stumbled into a group of Swiss folklore musicians which really made me feeling home. Curious, kind and eager to explain me what was going on with those dozens of horns and judges, bratwurst and beers from all over the neighbouring cantons.

We set to meet again in June, when the horn competition will take place – and of course they wanted to see my pictures, check them all here by yourself. While leaving the place to go on with my tour they said me goodbye with a funny “Arrivedeeeeerci!”

Call me Iron Man

April 29, 2012

Running, biking, sailing, canyoing, climbing and flying. Skip the last three, still yesterday 50 kms biking from Zurich to Rapperswill via Forch were “something” to remember. Check out the route pictures here!

Fire in your trousers!

April 11, 2012

Three years ago somebody showed me how chocolate plus a cola can plus sunshine could start a fire … or better, she tried to show me …

She failed because she did not have this brand new technological device produced oversea in the far far away land of Perpetual Rain, where probably sunshine is not so often powerful enough to use it  … Nevertheless, here in sunny Switzerland it works! I even manage to ignite the electric stove with it :D Thank you for the gift my dear Putzfrau!

Magnifire: the fire in your pocket, at least when sun shines out your a** … ehm… additionally, as I got older, I find it useful also to read subtitles at the cinema :)

Damn’ bad weather…

April 6, 2012

We should be here

We are stuck here for bad weather

Nevertheless…

The legendary town of Erfurt is worth a good visit

March 24, 2012

These pictures were taken in a land, North-East from Frankfurt, still only partly discovered by tourism pilgrims. Close to the more notorious Weimar, cut by a river called Gera, lies Erfurt. Pay a visit to the city of Martin Luther!

Icy dreams of Greifensee

Put a walk on a frozen lake, on a windy, cold and rainy day.

Do not rent a car from Europcar Italy: their low prices hide unfair damage charges

February 17, 2012

For a  500€ rental by Europcar Italy, I had to pay an extra 700€ fee just 3 months after I returned the car. If you oddly still want to rent one of their cars (do you work for them?), I would suggest you:

- Never accept a Europcar Italy car already damaged: they will easily find a way to charge you the damage somebody previously did

- Never give back a Europcar Italy car without having somebody inspecting it in front of you, or they will easily charge you whatever damage they will find (any damage happening in their parking slot between the time you parked the car and they inspect it is at your charge)

- Always double check a Europcar Italy contract: Europcar service must sign it too, or the contract will have no value later.

I had to pay 700€ for a scratch (!)  I never did and I’ve never seen (!) on a FIAT Punto: the sum was calculated by adding around 500€ of hand work, 100€ of materials and 100€ of logistic expenses. It seems not only Europcar Italy likes to rob its (ex)clients ..

So freezing in Zurich today we met penguins!

February 11, 2012

We had another ’round -10°C day today in Zurich. In Italy you say “it’s so cold penguins come through the windows”. In Switzerland, they just take a walk down to the zoo :) Click HERE for the full reportage.

Lake Zurich at -17°C: a steamy morning glory

February 4, 2012

If this morning you had a walk by Zurilake, you could have noticed some steamy ice. For a couple of hours it was only me, seagulls and a few crazy joggers. Despite the Swedish temperature, the lake is far from being ready for iceskating …

Locus Free + Vector free maps: BEST off-line Android navigation – Top App!

January 29, 2012

I never found a free wi-fi spot when I needed a map on my Android phone. So I was map less for quite a while. Something I never experienced with Nokia and its OVI Maps.

There is a way to make your Android phone really smart without paying a cent. Install Locus Free  and save the vector maps you need in \Locus\mapsVector on your external card.

Never again without maps! Additionally, vector maps are very small (142 MB for whole Switzerland), detailed, updated and fast to download on your desktop!
