Your wife, your car and her sense of direction

May 28, 2008

I don’t want to seem the usual Italian macho making jokes about women and their sense of orientation, but… after 2 years trying to show my wife how to get directions reading road maps / road shields / flock shapes or animal bowels I give up ;) Read the rest of this entry »

Ebenalp: another Paradise Switzerland

May 26, 2008

The Appenzeller region is always full of beautiful surprises. This time we went up by cable car to Ebenalp, then we went down to Seealpsee through the prehistoric Wildkirchli caves. Another wonderful and lucky day in Switzerland. Watch our picture on Flickr. Click HERE.

Neuchâtel and Bieler See shot with a EF 70-300 mm

May 13, 2008

N

Nice food, really nice food in Neuchâtel at Le Maison des Halles. Not only for food we went to the Neuchâtel lake region, but especially for a bike tour. We rent two light and comfortable mountain bikes at the station (28 CHF per day) and we had an 8 hours tour from Neuchâtel to the Sankt Peter insel, biking along the channel connecting the two lakes and having a quick stop in Le Landeron.

Better you watch our picture in Flickr (CLICK HERE to open this picture set page) to get an idea of what we did. Practically every picture has been taken with my EF 70-300mm, f/4-5.6 IS USM … enjoy the nice light and focus effects obtained with it.

Why did this happen to Rome?

April 28, 2008

This man on the video above, Francesco Rutelli, candidate by the left Italian party to become the major of Rome, did not win the elections. Hard to believe, uh?

Sun came just in time to test my new EOS 450D. Although we reached the trekking spot around midday and the weather turned misty, I am very satisfied of this first field test. Watch the show above to get an idea of the nice day we had walking from Weesen to Betlis Wasserfallen or check some of the nicest original size pictures of today:

Nice memories from the old town Andermatt

March 26, 2008

One day we will show these pictures to our nephews and we will say: “Look how beautiful was Andermatt before Mr. Samih Sawiris was allowed to build there his goddamit golf club …”

Italian is NOT a Swiss official language.

I can understand if on a Swiss restaurant menu they serve “ficaccia” instead of “focaccia” (focaccia is a typical Italian bread - ficaccia has something to do with sex …). I can understand if the announcements on Matterhorn-Gotthard trains are only in French, German and English. But, click on the post picture and read the signal: this is REALLY too much. This shield is in Sedrun.

Boycott Orascom and visit Andermatt, before it’s too late!!!

March 24, 2008

present-andermatt.jpg

We had such a nice time in Andermatt (Canton Uri, CH) this Easter. The village is ancient and lovely. Andermatt ski resorts are amazing and well connected with other regions by the romantic Matterhorn-Gotthard train line (train tickets included in the skipass). The natural panorama offered by Swiss Alps is breath taking and Andermatt inhabitants are so friendly and warm that we felt at home since we arrived.

But, what we learned there left us terrified. The Egyptian (!) company Orascom Hotels and Development (”Building better towns” is their motto!) has some evil projects for the lovely town of Andermatt. Read the rest of this entry »
