Un’ altra utile iniziativa del Popolo delle Liberta’: il potere in mano ai vecchietti delatori, incubo di ogni condominio. Chi piu’ di loro puo’ segnalare gente sospetta, disturbatori della quiete pubblica,  puttanieri e drogati, pisciatori di cani abusivi, ragazzini ubriaconi? Chi e’ sempre a casa a fare niente, se non a spiare i vicini di casa o i dirimpettai? Loro, i vecchietti delatori. Ci fosse stato il controllo del vicinato a Palazzo Grazioli, oggi Silvio avrebbe il 98% di preferenze e non sarebbe caduto in quelle trappolone a base di prostitute e festini.

My dear friend,
I write you a letter which is meant to be to myself. I chose this trick as I never met before you somebody who could help me understanding myself so good.

Absolutely speaking we did not spend so much time together. Qualitatively thinking, it was among the best time in my life. I do not write about myself today. We know each other a little bit, even though we do not meet so often. Today I write you about the world around me, the world that actively shapes me and the world that I rarely accept. I do not write about the world that I influence, because this is the only part of the world I feel confident about, and that’s a huge bless already.

I write you because I do not understand a very important thing in this world, and I hope you will help me in understanding it. To make the story short, I suppose the world I know composed by two different kinds of people: the people sure about their ideas, the sure people, and the people in doubt. There is a third kind, and you belong to them: the people sure about their doubts. This level of wisdom I did not reach, yet, , as you will realize by reading along.

Apparently, in this world, being sure about ideas is considered a positive attitude, being in doubt is a negative one. Usually sure people are not extremely interested in the quality of sure ideas, but they are happy to have them or to follow them. Sure ideas make sure people fighting together for sure ideas, usually against other sure people having their own sure ideas. Sure people, once defeated, acquire the new sure ideas, and the new, bigger group goes for the next enemy to fight. People in doubt seem to have a marginal role in all this, especially nowadays where sure ideas conquered the world, but it has not been always like this.

Coming shortly back to me, I am scared I recognized I am a worshiper of doubting. I am aware the one path I do follow is dangerous. People in doubt do not belong to organized groups, thus they are weaker in comparison to sure people. Ideas from people in doubt do always succumb against sure people, as sure people have always stronger argument in support to their sure ideas. Quantity plays also an important role, as people in doubt are outnumbered by sure people.

Nevertheless, not all doubts bring to perdition, if we are not talking about people in extreme doubt (that is, a pathological form of people in doubts). People in doubt are explorers, mind twisters, dreamers. It is thanks to people in doubt if our society advanced throughout its history. Innovations, blasphemies and revolutions made us what we are today.

It is not the banker counting endlessly his money pushing for human development. The banker comes after developmental leaps to enhance any business he can make money out of. It is not the lawyer, paid to solve controversy among people, who provide the material for our advancement. It is not the priest, repeating his litanies to people scared of death, who made us improving the world where we live. But the banker, the lawyer and the priest, belong to the group of the sure people, and sure people rule the world.

My dear friend, what I ask you today is not why is this world ruled my sure people. Living in doubt is not easy at all, and sooner or later people in doubts leave their life style to follow sure people. People in doubt spend a lot of energy in confutation and knowledge research. People in doubt train themselves to never believe single points of view, not even their own. It is fully comprehensible that people in doubt will be always outnumbered compared to sure people, especially as age increases. Turning into a sure person is full of benefits, as you know and as you can easily image by yourself, and I would like to become a sure person.  I would like it, no jokes, you know that I start to be tired of having doubts.

I became dubious that living in doubt is a positive attitude. I see sure people making a lot out of their own lives: they are successful, they obtain stability, the gain respect. Success, stability and respect are not at all bad concepts, as they go together with self esteem, safety and social acceptance. I mean, every sane human being does look for those goals.

However, as I am still in the group of the people in doubt, you can understand it is not easy at all to migrate to the group of the sure people. I am split between what I am and what I would like to be, between what I am happy to be and what I desire to be. And, of course, I cannot just decide to be a sure person from one day to the next. I start to believe that people are genetically sure people or people in doubt, like there are heterosexual or homosexual, so, I doubt there is a possibility to change. Being in doubt is not a sickness, it is a state of mind. How do I change a state of mind?

As I shortly wrote in the beginning of this letter, my dear friend, I feel you found a way to remain what you are and to become what you desire. You chose the path of confidence based on your doubts. This path is completely obscure to me. How can you obtain confidence on doubts? Did you collect so many doubts in your life, that their amount is now stable enough to build something durable on them? Did you come in touch with so many doubts, that you could put even sure people among them? Are you so far away from the world built by sure people, that the concepts of success, stability and respect do not count anything to you?

My dear friend, I ask you today to help a worshiper of doubts to come out of this world of confident people, as coming in appears to be very difficult. Do it, before I have to force myself to join it.

Background: the dictator Gaddafi invited 200 and more hostesses during his visit in Italy to teach I-do-not-know-what. As a gift, the girls got 60 euros, water and pizzas and a copy of the Holy Quran.

This picture is presumably taken after the lesson from Gaddafi finished. It is difficult to explain why I do find this picture one of the most shocking pictures I’ve ever seen. It is not the contrast between a holy book and girls dressed for a hot night in a disco: I am not Muslim and I am not conservative.

However, somehow, this picture represents something I do not understand, something going out of my logic. 1. Gaddafi. 2. The Holy Quran as a presence token after a meeting. 3. Girls dressed up to listen to a dictator giving lessons of religion.

This is not only baroque. This is not only grotesque. This is far away stronger than any Tarantino’s movie. This is PURE. HORROR. VACUI.

It took me one week end to be successful. The instructions found around in the web are far from being complete. Navigami is a very nice Java application to build tracks on landmarks in easy and intuitive way, in my opinion better than Nokia Maps (I still do not understand why the compass in Navigami is not very accurate: if you know why, please tell me what should I do). Nevertheless, the installation of Navigami maps is quite tricky. Read below and follow step by step the instructions. I assume you know how to pair devices via BT.

.Hardware and basic software you need

- Pc with Windows XP, JAVA and Nokia PC suite
- Mobile Device with Java Support (like Nokia 6700)
- External or Integrated GPS Receiver (integrated in Nokia 6700)
- BT dongle

1) Download of the necessary additional software

a.    Go http://www.navigami.com/download/navigami.jar and download the .JAR file to your PC on c:\ – I did not need the .JAD
b.    I’ve a DIKOM BT dongle. With Windows XP BT drivers nothing worked out. I needed to download the WIDIKOM drivers. You find them at  http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php – save the package on your PC.
c.    Download and save to your PC in c:\ the file comproxy.jar http://www.navigami.com/download/comproxy.jar and in c:\Windows\system32 the file rxtxSerial.dll http://www.navigami.com/download/rxtxSerial.dll

2)    Installation protocols for Win XP and Nokia 6700 mobile phone and BT setup

a.    Install the WIDIKOM BT drivers. If you have already installed the XP BT drivers, leave them there and just don’t use them. Restart the PC. To check if your WIDIKOM drivers work, try to connect via BT your mobile and Nokia PC Suite. It should work out easy. After the test I left the Nokia PC suite open and connected to the mobile – I do not know if it is necessary.

b.    If Nokia PC Suite works properly via BT, now it is time to setup the COM port you will use to connect navigami and your PC via BT. Go to advanced configuration/local services of the BT WIDIKOM program (right click on BT WIDIKOM taskbar icon) and push Add serial device (in my case COM17 came out – I set secure connection not required). Follow the requests to finish the setup of the new COM port. Now the port to exchange data between Navigami and XP is set.

c.    Install navigami.jar on your mobile. Drag it on Nokia PC Suite or just double click on it, as .jar should be opened by default by Nokia PC suite. Now it is time to go out of your cave for some minutes to get Navigami memorize at least one GPS coordinate (this will be the coordinate used to auto download the maps later). Start Navigami when you are outside with open sky on your head, stay in Navigami main screen so that you can give a look to the satellite icon for satellite lock. My Nokia 6700 takes as long as 10-15 minutes to have satellite locks. When I am lucky, 1-5 minutes are enough. While waiting, play around with Navigami to get confident with it, as no manual is written yet – do not play with networking settings, though! Once you get the satellite lock, you can save the position as a landmark and go back home to your PC.

d.    Install comproxy.jar on the PC. XP Start button/Run and write java -jar c:\comproxy.jar – a DOS window opens together with a small window. In the small window select COM17 (or the COM number you obtained in BT WIDIKOM when you added the COM port) and press Start.

3)    Navigami connection to PC (tricky step)

Open Navigami on your mobile and go on Settings/Network. Set the Proxy on Bluetooth, click on Search, find your PC and select it. Then tick the Enable option and left soft key/save . If going out and back in the menu Settings/Network the option Enable does not remain ticked, it means there was no connection between comproxy on the PC and navigami on the mobile. Be sure you selected the same COM port in Widikom and comproxy. Be sure your devices are paired via BT. If so, when you went on Settings/Network and set Proxy on Bluetooth, after search Navigami should have found your PC and announced “PC name” connected. If you are not able to pair navigami with comproxy, then no need to go futher

4)    Download of the maps

Now the magic part. Go on Maps/Manage Maps on Navigami. You should get a white screen with the last coordinates and a small red dot in the middle. This means: you’ve no maps installed. Bring the DOS window on the front in your PC – just to see what happens when you request map download in the next step. Left soft key/Download maps on the mobile. If your mobile tries to connect via wap, a error 27 will return. If this happens, it means your comproxy and navigami are not paired. Try to fix the problem by repeating the previous steps more carefully. If you see code scrolls on the DOS window and the mobile screen becoming red and maps appearing: CONGRATULATIONS! You installed the map relative to your position!  Enjoy now tracking and exploring!

And now my question: If you can help me to surf the web on my Nokia 6700 through BT, I will be very thankful I did not manage it, yet.
